What is a malt extract?
A malt extract is literally an extract of malt. This means that the mashing has already taken place. So when you brew beer with malt extract, you don't have to mash anymore, you just have to boil hops. This method of brewing beer, is applied by many hobby brewers in America; the so-called mini-mash method. However, it must be taken into account that one kilo of barley malt does not contain as much sugar as one kilo of malt extract.

    1 kg of malt extract powder form = 1.60 kg of malt
    1 kg of barley malt = 0.62 kg of malt extract powder form
    1 kg of malt extract liquid = 0.80 kg of malt extract powder form
    1 kg of malt extract liquid = 1.30 kg of malt


Use malt extract as a yeast starter:
Dissolve 100 g of malt extract in powder form in 800 ml of water. boil for 5 minutes, cool to 20-25 °C, pour into a sterile Erlenmeyer flask or bottle with siphon and finally add the yeast.

The use of spray-dried malt extracts instead of sugar also improves the quality of any beer kit. This results in beers that are less "dry" and more rich and full-bodied, with improved foam formation and strength. Spray-dried hop malt extracts add an extra "hoppy" flavor to all the beers you brew.

Powdered malt extract is hygroscopic; so it attracts moisture. Store it in a cool and, most importantly, dry place. Opened packages must be as airless as possible and tightly sealed.

Suggested Use:

1. Replace half the sugar with the malt extract: ½ Kg sugar plus ½ Kg spray-dried malt extract. This will work for any beer kit recipe where 1 kg of sugar is to be added. This recipe will greatly improve the overall quality and flavor of your beer.

 
2. Swap out 2 packages of 500 G of spray dried malt extract for the total amount of sugar recommended in the beer kit recipe. Note: You must use Munton's Premium Gold Yeast in this recipe, as you are brewing a particularly rich and full-bodied beer that requires the enhanced fermentation characteristics of Munton's Premium Gold Yeast. Simply replace 1 kg of sugar from the beer kit recipe with 2 packs of spray-dried malt extract. This will brew beer of the highest quality and turn any standard beer kit into a premium beer kit with an extra high percentage of malt.

3. Add one packet of spray-dried malt extract to any standard recipe, in addition to the 1 kg of sugar specified in the basic beer kit recipe. This will not only enhance the malt flavor, but you will also brew a stronger beer without destroying the natural characteristics of the beer. The brewed beer will be about 20% stronger than the standard recipe.


Whatever recipe you use, you can be sure that you will easily and economically brew a better beer than with any standard kit.
