Hopped or unhopped?
In our store, you basically have the choice between hopped and unhopped malt extract. The unhopped extract still has to be boiled and hopped, while the hops have already been added to the hopped malt extract. This saves a further work step.
The brewer's yeast must then be added to the hopped malt extract to start the fermentation process. In many of our product offers, the yeast is already included. Pay attention to the product description. Furthermore, you have the choice between malt extracts as powder or in liquid form.
However, if you would like to get even closer to authentic brewing and not skip the elaborate work steps, our ready-made mash packages are a good choice. Choose from one of our special malt blends, which are freshly milled on the day of shipment to provide you with the freshest possible product. In addition to the milled malt, each mash package also contains hops and the brewer's yeast needed for the fermentation process. Thus, you have everything for mashing and lautering, as well as hop boiling and fermentation, in one complete package.
The unhopped extracts in our assortment range from light to wheat to dark. These different varieties are classically classified according to the EBC (European Brewery Convention). While in the case of the unhopped malt extract it is primarily the color of the beer that is decided, the subsequent hop addition is decisive for the taste of your brew. Thus, with our pre-hopped malt extracts, you have the choice between different beer types, such as Pils, Bock or Hell.
Combine malt extracts
Since all mash packages and malt extracts differ in taste and alcohol content, it is recommended to vary and combine the different varieties to suit your individual taste. Your own influence on the taste and astringency of your beer is of course greater the less you leave to the pre-hop, so you give an un-hopped malt extract a stronger individual note than the pre-hopped alternative.
To ensure consistent quality, we rely on renowned manufacturers such as Muntons or Brewferm for our malt extract products. So you too can find the right item for your very own delicious beer. For more information and detailed brewing instructions, please refer to the product description.
