Wine starter set: What's in it?

Every starter set in our range contains the absolute basic items that hobby winemakers should have in their basic equipment. These include:

  • a fermentation container or fermentation balloon (capacity from 10 to 60 liters)

  • Rubber stoppers and fermentation tubes

  • Wine yeast from Kitzinger

  • Yeast nutrient salt

  • Sulfur

  • Chemi Pro Oxi 100g (disinfection)

Also included, depending on the equipment

  • a Vin-O-Meter

  • a hydrometer (to determine density, sugar content and potential alcohol content)

  • a standing cylinder for hydrometer

  • a wine lifter

Furthermore, each starter set includes "Kitzinger's little wine primer", in which instructions, information and lots of recipes help the hobby winemaker with the first wine making.

Which wine starter set is the right one?

If you have a choice, you are spoiled for choice, and the search for the right set is not so easy: In our assortment you will find many starter sets for wine making. Which one is right for you depends on what plans you have for your wine career: Have you ever made wine yourself? Can you see yourself making wine on a regular basis? Are you making wine just for your own use, or do you want to give some bottles away as gifts?

The amount of wine you want to produce should already be taken into consideration when purchasing the starter kit.

When making wine for the first time and venturing into the craft alone, it is advisable to start with small quantities first. After all, despite all the passion for wine, there is a chance that winemaking will not be fun after all or that the first attempt will fail. Thus, for the beginning it is enough to have a wine set with a Fermentation containerthat includes 10 liters. Less than 10 liters, however, should not be in any case, because in the course of winemaking there is shrinkage. To still have enough wine left, 10 liters is the minimum.

On the other hand, if you are going to winemaking with friends and want to produce correspondingly more wine for everyone, a larger wine set is recommended, with a fermentation carboy that holds 20 or 30 liters. Professionals who want to produce equally large quantities will find sufficient space in a 60-liter fermentation container.

Secondly, it also depends on whether you already have certain items from a set at home: For example, if you already own a hydrometer or a wine lifter, you can choose a set that does not include these items (unless, of course, you want a replacement).

Wine starter set as a gift

Your friends love wine? Then why not give them not just a bottle of wine for their next birthday, but a wine starter set right away. An extraordinary gift idea for all wine lovers. The beauty: with a starter set, wine fans not only become hobby winemakers - you can also get a taste of the wonder world of wine making together. While each set of kits comes with instructions, of course, winemaking is even more fun when you try it out together. Raise a toast to friendship with homemade wine! Not only will you be giving something original as a gift, but it will also be a nice keepsake.
